Colorants
Colors for PU and PVC Artificial Leather
Fine-ground colour pastes for PU and PVC coating layers on synthetic leather.

What it is
Synthetic leather is built in layers on a fabric base. The colour sits mainly in the skin and top coat and, in many constructions, in the layer beneath it, so the pigment paste has to disperse smoothly into the resin and form a film that is even, glossy or matt as specified, and fast to light and rubbing.
Chemie makes colour pastes for the main systems used in synthetic leather: solvent-based PU, water-based PU and PVC plastisol or paste. The carrier is chosen to suit the binder, solvent and plasticiser in your formulation, because a paste that works in one system can bleed, flocculate or dull the gloss in another.
We develop shades against your lot standard or swatch and keep a retained standard, so a re-run months later is judged against the same reference.
Systems we colour
- Solvent-based PU for skin and top coats, with pastes carried in solvents compatible with common coating solvents.
- Water-based PU, where the paste must stay stable in water-borne dispersions and not shock the binder.
- PVC plastisol and paste for coated and calendered constructions, where plasticiser compatibility and migration resistance matter.
What we control in the paste
- Fineness of grind, for smooth coating under the knife with no specks or streaks.
- Tinting strength and shade, checked on a drawdown against your standard.
- Pigment choice for light-fastness and rub-fastness where the product is used in seating, bags or footwear.
- Resistance to bleeding and migration into adjacent layers, particularly in PVC systems.
Why customers choose it
Matched to your lot standard
Shades developed against your swatch and retained for repeat orders, to keep colour consistent across rolls and runs.
Smooth film
Fine grind designed for knife-over-roll and spread coating, so surface finish is even.
Right carrier for the system
Pastes tailored to solvent PU, water-based PU or PVC, not one compromise grade for all three.
Fastness in mind
Pigments selected for the light and rub fastness the end product needs.
Applications
- Upholstery and furniture leather
- Automotive interior trim
- Footwear uppers
- Bags, belts and accessories
- Book covers and stationery
- Sports goods and soft-feel coverings

View detailsColors for PU and PVC Artificial Leather: frequently asked questions
Which artificial leather systems do your colors suit?
We make pastes for solvent-based PU, water-based PU and PVC plastisol or paste. The carrier is chosen per system so the paste is compatible with your binder and solvent or plasticiser.
Can you match my lot standard or swatch?
Yes. We develop the shade against your swatch, check it on a drawdown, and retain a standard so repeat orders match.
Will the colour bleed or migrate in PVC?
Pigments and carriers are selected for migration resistance in the layer structure you use. Tell us the plasticiser and adjacent layers so we can choose appropriately, then confirm on a trial.
How do you get a smooth surface?
Pastes are ground fine and checked for fineness so they coat evenly under the knife with no specks or streaks.
Are the colors REACH and RoHS compliant?
Yes. Compliance information and a TDS and SDS are available on request.
